UNC Women’s Soccer: A Historic 23rd Title

Celebrating UNC’s 2024 NCAA National Championship

UNC has a rich history of being a women’s soccer powerhouse, and this past weekend the team claimed the 2024 NCAA national championship with a 1-0 victory over in-state rivals Wake Forest. With 23 titles under its belt, UNC has the most women’s soccer national championships of any program in NCAA Division I history.

This also marked the first championship for interim head coach Damon Nahas, who stepped in just days before the season began following the retirement of legendary coach Anson Dorrance.

Despite significant roster turnover, the Tar Heels built a cohesive unit that ultimately proved unstoppable. Their journey culminated in the College Cup final, where Olivia Thomas scored a decisive free-kick goal—her fourth of the NCAA Tournament—securing the championship.

This title also marks a special milestone for the team here at PlayerData. UNC was one of our first US based clients when we expanded from the UK into the States in late 2023. They are now our first client to win a national championship. It’s been an absolute privilege to work with such an exceptional team and organization, and a thrill to be able to follow along for this extraordinary season.

Congratulations again to everyone at UNC Women’s Soccer. You’ve truly earned this moment of glory. And here’s to many more! 🍾
