LACROSSE QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

The questions we hear most from lacrosse coaches before a demo.

How many units does a program need?+

Pricing is per unit, so you choose based on the number of athletes you want to track. Many lacrosse programs run 20-30 units for their entire roster so they can make sure they augment bench player supplemental training to match the starters who spend more time on the field on gameday. The standard case carries 30 units and easily fits into a backpack for transportation.

How much time does it add on a game day?+

A few minutes. All units turn on simultaneously with one tap of the button on the carrying case/charging dock. Each unit has a small screen that displays every player’s initials and jersey number, so they can easily grab their own units, drop them into the vests, and play. PlayerData has a unique cloud-based workflow, so you just need to tap one button in the PlayerData app to start a session. And then it’s just one tap at the end to sync the data. There is no required laptop on the sideline and no time-consuming download afterwards. Sessions sync over cellular or wifi.

Do midfielders, attackers and defenders get measured the same way?+

Every athlete wears the same unit, but you can group athletes by position. A midfielder's distance looks nothing like a close defender's, so you can set expectations for each position group and hold players to the right standard.

Is it worth using in season as well as off-season?+

Yes. In season is where most programs get significant value. You are able to build game profiles which informs off-season training plans to ensure readiness. Preseason builds the baseline, then in-season data shows you who is carrying too much load before it becomes a soft-tissue injury, and you get objective insights on how hard each player is working.

What if I have questions about the data or need help interpreting it?+

PlayerData comes with two layers of support: human and AI. CoachMate AI is an embedded assistant built directly into the platform. Ask it a plain-language question and get an instant answer, report, or recommendation without needing a sport science background. And behind CoachMate is a real support team that actually knows sport. When you reach out, someone who understands lacrosse and performance data responds. Coaches consistently describe the PlayerData support experience as unlike anything else in the market.

Does PlayerData work indoors for winter training and off-season conditioning?+

Yes. PlayerData uses IMU — inertial measurement unit — technology to capture speed and distance indoors without relying on GPS satellite signals. That means your indoor winter practices and covered facility work all produce data. For lacrosse programs that spend significant time training indoors between November and March, this means you can track data across the full year, not just the outdoor season.

What does CoachMate AI actually do?+

CoachMate is an AI assistant built into the PlayerData platform that lets you ask plain-language questions about your data and get instant answers. Instead of navigating dashboards and building reports manually, you can ask CoachMate things like “which of my midfielders covered the most distance this week?” or “how does this week’s training load compare to last week?” and get an immediate response. It’s designed for coaches who want the insights without the analysis work, so the data actually gets used rather than just collected.

How do players see their data?+

Every PlayerData program includes the athlete app, which gives each player direct access to their own session data on their phone after every session, no action required from the coaching staff. Players can see their own speed, distance, sprint count, workload score, and how their numbers compare to previous sessions. The app updates automatically as soon as the session syncs, which means players have their data before they leave the locker room. When athletes can see their own numbers, the culture around training changes. Effort becomes visible, progress becomes personal, and buy-in follows naturally.
